EMERGENCY MITIGATION STEPS

Take these steps immediately to minimize damage while waiting for help

1

LOCATE YOUR MAIN WATER SHUT-OFF VALVE

The main shut-off valve controls all water coming into your home. Common locations:

  • Inside: Basement, crawl space, or utility room where main water line enters
  • Outside: Near the water meter, usually in a concrete box in your yard
  • Garage: Along the wall where water enters from the street
2

TURN OFF THE WATER MAIN

How to shut off your water supply:

  • Gate valve (wheel): Turn clockwise (righty-tighty) until fully closed
  • Ball valve (lever): Turn 90 degrees perpendicular to the pipe
  • Stuck valve: Don't force it—call us immediately
3

STOP THE DAMAGE

Immediate damage control steps:

  • Move furniture, electronics, and valuables away from water
  • Use towels, buckets, or a wet/dry vacuum to contain water
  • Open windows and use fans to start drying the area
  • Take photos for insurance documentation
